State Sen. Joseph Pennacchio (R-Montville) and Assemblymen Jay Webber (R-Morris Plains) and Brian Bergen (R-Denville) have won the endorsement of one of the most popular Republican vote-getters in Morris County, Sheriff James Gannon.
Gannon was re-elected to a third term earlier this month without opposition.
The three incumbents from the 26th legislative district have been locking up endorsements from Republican leaders in response to a possible primary from former Assemblywoman BettyLou DeCroce (R-Parsippany) and others.
DeCroce lost a GOP primary to Christian Barranco (R-Jefferson) in 2021, but legislative redistricting put him in the next-door 25th and Bergen was moved to the 26th.
Pennacchio, Webber and Bergen have already obtained petition signatures from more than 80% of the Morris County Republican county committee as they prepare for next year’s convention. They have also been endorsed by Passaic County GOP Chairman Peter Murphy.
“I have such incredible respect for Sheriff Gannon,” said Bergen. “To have his endorsement means the world to me. I look forward to continuing to work side by side with him as a staunch advocate for our law enforcement officers.”
