Mitchelle Drulis has now secured her fourth organization line and a clear path to the Democratic nomination for State Assembly in the 16th district after capturing Somerset County endorsement tonight without opposition.
A former district director for Rep. Tom Malinowski (D-Ringoes) and onetime chief of staff to Assembly Labor Committee Chairman Joseph Egan (D-New Brunswick), Drulis is seeking the open seat of Sadaf Jaffer (D-Montgomery). Jaffer is leaving the legislature after just one term.
Drulis will run with State Sen. Andrew Zwicker (D-South Brunswick) and Assemblyman Roy Freiman (D-Hillsborough) in the June 8 Democratic primary. All three were unanimously endorsed by Somerset County Democrats tonight after winning conventions in Hunterdon, Mercer, and Middlesex counties.
“Roy and I have fought to deliver critical federal and state funding for Somerset County to keep moving the county forward,” Zwicker said. “We are excited for the addition of Mitchelle Drulis to the ticket and her years of constituent services experience. Together, our team will continue to advocate for Somerset County families, and the future of all families across the district, in Trenton, when elected this November.”
Former Rep. Michael Pappas (R-Branchburg) is seeking a rematch of his 2021 race against Zwicker. Clinton Councilman Ross Traphagen and Princeton accountant Grace Zhang are running for Assembly.
