Assemblymen Chris DePhillips (R-Wyckoff) and Al Barlas (R-Cedar Grove) announced today that they will seek re-election to the 40th district Assembly seats in 2025 with the support of State Sen. Kristin Corrado (R-Totowa), their GOP county and municipal chairs, and every Republican elected official in the district.
DePhillips is a four-term lawmaker, and Barlas is a freshman who ran after redistricting substantially increased Essex County’s footprint in the district from one municipality to seven.
“I am proud to serve in the Assembly alongside Al Barlas,” DePhillips said. “As your representative, I work to deliver real results for our community – from flood mitigation, to ensuring our schools get their fair share of funding, to fixing our roads and bridges. I am excited for the campaign ahead and another term fighting for what’s right.”
Barlas said he is “more energized than ever” to continue in his work in the legislature.
“Our communities and families face many challenges – from high costs due to inflation, reckless policies threatening the overdevelopment of our communities to ever increasing taxes that are strangling small business and families,” he said. “I am seeking reelection to continue my fight against these extreme policies and to put people before reckless ideology.”
Heading the DePhillips-Barlas endorsement list are: Passaic County Republican Chairman Peter Murphy, the Totowa GOP municipal chairman; Bergen County Republican Chairman Jack DeLorenzo, and the two Essex GOP vice chairs, Mary Devon O’Brien and Joy Freeman. Barlas is the Essex chairman.
New Jersey Republican State Committee Vice Chair Darlene Shotmeyer and District 40 GOP Chair Drita McNamara are also backing DePhillips and Barlas.
Support has come from GOP municipal leaders and local officials in Caldwell, Cedar Grove, Essex Fells, Fairfield, Franklin Lakes, Hawthorne, Little Falls, North Caldwell, Ridgewood, Totowa, Verona, Wayne, West Caldwell, Woodland Park and Wyckoff.
